The seventh round quickly devolved into a run on USC players as three were taken in a row by the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. With their final pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Seahawks took USC linebacker Malcolm Smith. The Trojan was the second linebacker chosen by the Seahawks, joining fourth-round pick K.J Wright.
Smith is the brother of New York Giants’ wide receiver Steve Smith. He’s a speedster with a 4.4 40-yard-dash, but it’s unclear how he fits into the Seahawks plans and seems to be little more than depth.
With that, the 2011 NFL Draft ends with a whimper. Seattle went after clear needs, choosing multiple linebackers, defensive backs and offensive linemen. It was clear from the picks where the Seahawks wanted to focus, and they did so in an almost tunnel-vision way.
