K.J. Wright had an excellent morning on Saturday as he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the second pick in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. But the pick wasn't all that was on Wright's mind: He was in the middle of graduation when it happened. So when the Seahawks front office called to let him know his fate, Wright didn't have the typically jubilation that comes along with being drafted. Instead, he whispered.
The news comes from the Seattle PI's Christian Caple, and it may just be the story of the day.
K.J. Wright responded in hushed tones to Seattle's phone call. Why? He was walking in his graduation ceremony when he took the call.
You know, there may not be a better day out there to be had. Wright not only earned his diploma and was able to walk in his graduation; His career also got off on the right foot as he was taken in the draft. It's a double-whammy, though the timing couldn't have been worse for Wright.
"Hey, K.J., it's Pete Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks. Hey, yeah, listen. We just picked you in the fourth round. Congratulations."
"Thanks coach, but, uh, can I call you back. I'm kind of graduating right now."
Congratulations to Wright, both for his graduation and the draft pick.
