2011 NFL Combine Results: Three Cone Drill Times For Defensive Backs

It’s all about fluid movements, quick cuts and acceleration in the three cone drill, must-have attributes for quality defensive backs. On Tuesday, the final day of the 2011 NFL combine, the two groups of defensive backs were flying around the cones, led by Buster Skrine, who ran the second-fastest three cone drill in the combine, behind Oregon’s Jeffrey Maehl. Even Idaho’s Shiloh Keo got in on the act, running the third-fastest time of any defensive back on Tuesday.

Patrick Peterson was flying as well, an expected result after his quick 40 time and impressive measurements in the vertical and broad jump tests. Peterson turned in the fourth-fastest time, just over a tenth of a second slower than Skrine’s Combine record time for defensive backs. Nate Williams was also one of the top-five safeties in the three cone drill, clocking in at 6.98 seconds.

Here’s a few of the top performers from the drill, led by Skrine’s blistering time.

Buster Skrine 6.44
Chykie Brown 6.50
Shiloh Keo 6.55
Patrick Peterson 6.58
Curtis Brown 6.59
Davon House 6.65
Brandyn Thompson 6.66
Rasah Carmichael 6.69
Aaron Williams 6.72
Eric Hagg 6.73

Tuesday brought the combine to a close after four days of non-stop action in Indianapolis. Teams are headed back to the drawing board in an effort to tweak their big boards ahead of April’s draft. Players, on the other hand, are heading back to work, as they continue to train for their own pro days in hopes of raising their stock. In all, it was a successful combine, with plenty of impressive performances and workouts to go around.
