NFL Combine 2011: Taiwan Jones Invited, Unable To Run Due To Foot Injury

Taiwan Jones is almost fully healed from a foot injury that sidelined him for the end of Eastern Washington's magical season, but he won't be able to workout in front of the scouts at the NFL Combine. Jones was invited to the combine and has seen his stock rise since declaring for the draft, but hasn't healed enough to run on his injured foot.

Jones was called an explosive open-field runner, perhaps the best in the 2011 draft class, after scouts and analysts got their hands on some of his game tape. Playing at FCS champion Eastern Washington, Jones was underexposed, though the cream somehow always rises to the top in the world of the NFL Draft. At last check, even with the injury, Jones was a mid-round pick, projected to come off the board between the third and fourth round by the time the draft rolls around.

Even though he's out of the walking boot that kept his foot stabilized, Jones will have to wait until Hawaii's Pro Day, on March 31, to show off his explosive speed and athleticism. His durability, and injury history, are a concern, but the thinking is his upside outweighs the potential negatives. Unfortunately, with all the teams gathered in Indianapolis for the combine, Jones will miss out on the biggest chance to improve his draft stock, though he still has plenty of chances to impress before the draft.
