Doug Baldwin Named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

After his all-around ridiculous performance against th St. Louis Rams on Monday rookie wide reciever/special teams baller Doug Baldwin won the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award, and rightfully so.

Star-divide

Baldwin was a busy, busy man on Monday, starting on the opening kickoff of the game. Baldwin made his impact felt when a handoff from Leon Washington led to 37-yard return to set Seattle up at the 43-yard line, though he was far from finished.

Later in the first quarter, he downed a Jon Ryan punt at the St. Louis six-yard line. Then after the Seahawks defense forced a punt, Baldwin blocked the kick which Michael Robinson took 17 yards for a touchdown. It marked the 11th touchdown off a blocked punt in franchise history. Since the Seahawks entered the NFL in 1976, only one the Kansas City Chiefs with 12 have more touchdowns off blocked punts.

Baldwin also caught 29-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, and now is the first NFL player to block a punt and catch a touchdown pass in the same game since 2000.

In his rookie season from Stanford, Baldwin now leads Seattle in receptions (45) and receiving yards (718) and is on pace to become the first undrafted rookie to lead a team in both categories since 1960 if he can keep it up.
