Seattle Arena Proposal: Chris Hansen Pens Open Letter to Dispel Misconceptions

Chris Hansen, the hedge-fund manager that heads the ownership group whose goal is to build a multi-purpose arena in the SoDo neighborhood, wants to bring the NBA back to Seattle. He also wants to bring an NHL franchise to Seattle. And he's worked very hard in the past few months (years, actually) to make this a reality. Naturally, he's encountered resistance to his proposal - it's a very big project and the consequences of having the building, teams, and events in SoDo needs to be scrutinized. In this period of scrutinization, a lot of information has been released, and there have been different constituencies offering their opinions on things. Hansen has now offered his exceedingly detailed thoughts on the concerns and questions being asked about the arena deal.

Have you asked the following questions or wondered about the following points?

- DOES THE PROPOSAL PROTECT EXISTING GENERAL FUND RESOURCES?
- FINANCIAL IMPACT ON COUNTY AND STATE
- FUTURE OF KEYARENA AND ECONOMIC IMPACT
- EXTERNALITIES (TRAFFIC)
- DOES THE PROPOSAL "SIGNIFICANTLY PROTECT THE CITY FROM - FINANCIAL RISKS?"
- CAN SEATTLE SUPPORT TWO MORE FIRST TIER SPORTS TEAMS?
- IS ENOUGH BEING SET ASIDE TO KEEP THE ARENA FIRST CLASS FOR 30 YEARS?
- IS THERE INCREASED RISK FROM HAVING JUST THE NBA?
- WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON SEATTLE PROPERTY TAXES?
- WHY NOT REBUILD KEYARENA?
- WHY IS THE CITY BUYING LAND FOR $100 MILLION THAT WE PAID $40 MILLION FOR?

Then read Hansen's open letter.
