Mariners Vs. Athletics: Felix Hernandez Eyes 14th Win Of Season

Stay connected for news and updates

Fresh off an uplifting series against the Boston Red Sox, the Seattle Mariners host the Oakland A's at Safeco Friday night, hoping that Felix Hernandez can pick up where he left off.

Hernandez (13-6, 2.51 ERA) suffered his first defeat since June 12 in his last start. He gave up five runs over 7.1 innings in a 5-2 loss to the Angels. Nevertheless, King Felix is still the owner of the majors' lowest ERA, posting a 9-0 record with a 1.40 ERA over his last 14 starts.

The A's will send out rookie A.J. Griffin (4-0, 2.26), who has been outstanding so far with Oakland. He became the first pitcher in Oakland history to begin 4-0 as a starter, sending down the first 14 batters he faced in his last start en route to a 7-1 victory over Boston.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PT with coverage on Root Sports and 710 ESPN.
