Stay connected for news and updates

The Seattle Mariners play host to the Texas Rangers on Friday night at Safeco Field, with a pair of rookies taking the mound as the Rangers look to lock up the AL West this weekend.

Rookie right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (6-5, 3.39) takes the bump for Seattle. He's lost his last two starts after going 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA in his previous five, including a two-run, 5.1 inning outing against Texas in his last start.

The Rangers will counter with Martin Perez (1-1, 3.38 ERA), who is making first start since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock at the start of the month. The left-hander came in and threw 4.1 hitless innings of relief on Sept. 15 en route to a 8-6 loss to these Seattle Mariners.

Texas holds onto a four game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the AL West heading into this series.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PT with coverage on Root Sports and ESPN 710 AM.
