On Wednesday night, the Seattle Mariners found themselves on the wrong side of an offensive barrage. Seattle starter Jason Vargas had an unusually bad game in a 10-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins got things started in the third inning with RBI singles from Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Trevor Plouffe hit a home run off of Vargas in the fourth inning and Josh Willingham hit a solo shot in the fifth. Vargas was knocked out of the game after giving up six runs in just 4.2 innings.
Willingam hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Plouffe added an RBI double to make it 9-0 Twins. Mauer tacked on one last run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
The Mariners were held to just two hits in the game. Seattle batters did not draw a walk and struck out 10 times.
