Mariners Vs. Athletics Final Score: Seattle Drops 2-1 Game In 13 Innings, Loses Series

The Seattle Mariners played a lengthy, somewhat bizarre game against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday in the last contest before the All-Star break. In the end, the A's pulled off a 13-inning, 2-1 victory to claim the series.

Yoenis Cespedes hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to stake the A's to a 1-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, Michael Saunders hit a two-out RBI single of his own to score Dustin Ackley.

The game went to extra innings still knotted at 1-1. In the top of the 13th, the skies above the outfield began to teem with multitudes of seagulls. With two outs, Saunders manage to double on a pop fly thanks to the Oakland defense getting distracted by flying gulls, but Jemile Weeks made a nifty play on a slow roller from John Jaso to retire the side.

In the bottom of the 13th, Weeks singled to lead off the inning and was driven in by a Josh Reddick double for the winning run and the walk-off Oakland win.

Seattle ace Felix Hernandez gave up one run in 7.2 innings on six hits and three walks, striking out six batters along the way.

The Mariners will head into the All-Star break trying to figure out how to regroup and definitely in need of a break.
