The Seattle Mariners have traded Ichiro to the New York Yankees in exchange for a few pitching prospects.

The Seattle Mariners have traded one of the greatest players in the history of their franchise to a team that seems to stockpile on aging superstars. The New York Yankees landed Ichiro Suzuki in a deal that sent two pitchers over to Seattle in DJ Mitchell and Danny Fahrquar.

Ichiro has played his entire career in Seattle after they won the rights to negotiate with him and signed him to a multi-year, multimillion dollar contract. He's been hitting for them since 2001 and hasn't missed a beat since. Ichiro once set the single-season record for hits, but his batting average his dipped the past two seasons and he will be 38 years old this season. This isn't an amazing deal for New York, but it could be worth it if Ichiro gives them a resurgence.

To make this trade even more surreal, the Yankees are in Seattle tonight. Could Ichiro suit up in a Yankee uniform in front of the Mariners crowd that has long cheered his name? Or maybe tomorrow when Seattle sends ace Felix Hernandez to the mound? One can only guess at this point.

Farquhar has not pitched much in the major leagues with only a couple of appearances, and the same is true of MItchell. The big concern could very well be letting Ichiro go for nothing in free agency, although it seems like Seattle didn't get much in return for Ichiro to begin with.

Talk about the Ichiro trade by heading on over to Lookout Landing to talk with Mariners fans, and Pinstripe Alley to talk with Yankees fans.
