The Mariners rallied in Arlington Friday night, scoring two late runs to cut the Rangers ninth-inning lead to 3-2, but second baseman Dustin Ackley struck out with runners on the corners to end the game.
Seattle starter Kevin Millwood took the loss and fell to 3-7 in his first start since June 27. He gave up three runs on eight hits in 6-2/3 innings, including a two-run shot to Rangers' third baseman and former Mariner Adrian Beltre, his 16th on the year.
The Mariners were led on offense by Casper Wells, who hit third. He finished 2-4 on the night, and third baseman Kyle Seager added a couple of hits and a walk. The M's hitters failed to score a run until the ninth inning though, and again provided an offensive effort that proved to be too little, too late. Seattle falls to 36-52 on the season.
