Mariners Vs. Angels Final Score: Seattle Drops Series With 5-3 Loss

The Seattle Mariners hosted the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game series. The Mariners were hoping to salvage a split with wins on Saturday and Sunday and had to feel good about their chances with Felix Hernandez getting the start, but one disastrous inning led to a 5-3 Angels win.

The Angels got on the board first with an Albert Pujols solo home run in the fourth inning, his seventh of the year and third in as many games. The Mariners managed to tie the game and take the lead in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Mike Carp and Dustin Ackley.

The sixth inning is where everything fell apart for Hernandez, however, as the Angels loaded the bases with no outs and Alberto Callaspo hit a one-out grand slam to put the Halos on top, 5-2. Justin Smoak would get the Mariners a step closer with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, but that would be as close as Seattle would get.

Hernandez struck out seven batters against just one walk in six innings of work, but allowed five runs on 10 hits.

The Mariners will attempt to avoid the sweep on Sunday.
