Mariners Vs. Yankees, Game 1 Final Score: New York Plays Long Ball, Wins 6-2

For a brief moment on Friday, the Seattle Mariners had a lead against the New York Yankees and were looking strong behind their ace Felix Hernandez. That all ended in the blink of an eye and the M's ended up suffering a 6-2 loss to start the series and their road trip.

The Mariners once again got on the board in the top of the first but couldn't muster much offense after that. Dustin Ackley led off the game with his second home run of the year. The Yankees would tie things up 1-1 in the bottom of the inning, however, on a Robinson Cano sacrifice fly.

The score would remain 1-1 until the top of the sixth, as both teams stranded their share of runners. The Mariners went ahead 2-1 when Jesus Montero lef off the inning with another solo shot. The lead was short-lived, as Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer off of Hernandez with two outs to put the Yankees up 4-2.

Hernandez came out of the game after 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits and two walks.

The Yankees would add their final runs on another homer, this time by a pinch-hitting Andruw Jones in the bottom of the eighth. Apart from a Justin Smoak infield single, the M's went quietly in the ninth and that was that. The Mariners ended up stranding 16 baserunners in the game.

The Mariners will attempt to muster more offense on Saturday, as they face Phil Hughes.
