When the news came down that Franklin Gutierrez was going to miss a significant amount of time with his torn pectoral muscle, it was devastating to the Seattle Mariners clubhouse. But Guti had some positive things to say on Sunday, as reported by the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker on Twitter:
Also, if Gutierrez is saying he's six weeks away from being in playing shape, that means minor league rehab assignment in mid-April at best— Geoff Baker (@gbakermariners) March 4, 2012
Although that isn't the greatest news, it could have certainly been a lot worse, as it's looking like he could return for the majority of the summer and hopefully into the fall.
Gutierrez played only 92 games in an injury-plagued season in 2011, batting a meager .224 with only one homer and 19 RBI. Hopefully this injury doesn't do the same thing to his numbers this season.
