Angelo Chol Commits To Arizona Over North Carolina, Kansas

At long last, Angelo Chol announced his decision to the world on Thursday afternoon, choosing to play his college ball at the University of Arizona over North Carolina and Kansas. Chol took his fifth, and final, official visit this past weekend, taking in a Washington basketball game with Tony Wroten and Hikeem Stewart. At the time, Stewart and Wroten were almost certain Chol was headed to Washington, but when it came time to narrow his list down to three, Washington was missing from the list.

Chol is a premier power forward in the class of 2011, ranked No. 10 at his position. At 6-foot-9, 210 pounds, Chol was the big man Washington head coach had been looking for in an effort to bolster the Huskies’ post presence in 2011. Though Romar’s recruiting class is already excellent, a commitment from Chol would’ve been the cherry on top, perhaps pushing Washington into the upper-echelon in 2011.

Instead, he’ll head to Arizona, where head coach Sean Miller is putting together an excellent program built on some of the best recruiting in the Pac-10. Chol is Miller’s fourth commitment in the class of 2011, joining five-star guard Josiah Turner, four-star guard Nick Johnson and four-star forward Sidiki Johnson. With those four in the fold, Miller has himself one of the top 2011 recruiting classes.

Angelo Chol Narrows List Of Schools, Eliminates Washington

Earlier today, Chol was "a near-lock to pick Washington on Thursday". Later on, Washington is out of the picture.

Chol is set to announce his choice on Thursday, in an announcement that is set to be live streamed over the internet, but he gave a little bit of insight into his decision process late on Tuesday night on his Twitter account:

The superstar forward out of San Diego had visited most of the top schools in the nation, including Washington, North Carolina, Arizona, Kansas and Alabama. Coach Romar was hoping to put the big man in the paint to create a presence the outside shooting Huskies lack.

A little while later, Chol returned to Twitter to offer condolences to grieving Husky and Crimson Tide fanbases

If you're still interested to see where Chol ends up you can still watch his announcement this Thursday at about 12:45. The stream will be live at the KBC Sports website. If at all possible, Husky and Cougar fans would love to see him stay away from Arizona.

Angelo Chol Announcement Set For Thursday, Reportedly Streaming Live Online

Highly touted power forward Angelo Chol will announce his college decision on Thursday and the Washington Huskies appear to have the inside track for his services. Chol, a four-star forward out of California, visited Washington last weekend, taking in the campus with Tony Wroten and Hikeem Stewart, members of the Huskies’ recruiting class of 2011. Judging from Wroten and Stewart’s reaction after his visit, it appears Chol is a near lock to pick Washington on Thursday.

According to a report by Scout.com’s Evan Daniels (via Christian Caple from the Seattle PI) Chol will make his decision, and announce it to the world, in a press conference at Hoover High School. For Washington fans itching to watch it live, a live stream will reportedly be provided at 12:45 p.m., available at Kbcsports’ website. Chol has visited Washington, North Carolina, Arizona, Kansas and Alabama during the recruitment process and will choose between the schools on Thursday.

Chol has been a top target of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar, who’s looking to round out the class of 2011 with an inside presence. With Matthew Bryan-Amaning gone, the Huskies guard-heavy rotation clearly needs another force in the middle, and Chol could be that player. As a freshman, it appears Chol would have a chance to contribute immediate for the Huskies.

For more on Chol and Washington basketball recruiting, stay with our StoryStream.

Angelo Chol Visits Washington, Set To Announce Decision On Thursday

Four-star power forward Angelo Chol visiting Washington this weekend, taking in the Huskies’ win over Stanford with Tony Wroten and Hikeem Stewart. Wroten and Stewart are already signed, sealed and delivered in Lorenzo Romar’s class of 2011, but are working hard to lock-up Chol, a game-charger at power forward. From all reports, Chol enjoyed his time, and is set to announce his college decision to the world on Thursday.

Though Romar put together a solid 2011 recruiting class, Chol could be the cherry on top. With Stewart and Wroten a formidable tandem on the perimeter, Chol has the potential to give the Huskies an immediate boost in the low block, especially with Matthew Bryan-Amaning gone after this year. It’s no wonder Romar has been after Chol so hard, securing his final visit before he makes a decision.

Chol’s list of schools looks like a who’s who of basketball powers, with the Huskies joining North Carolina, Kansas, Arizona and Alabama. If you ask Stewart, though, the Huskies are in for some good news on Thursday.

UW Recruiting: Jernard Jarreau Joins Tony Wroten, Jr. & Co In Signing With Huskies

After months of hype, Tony Wroten, Jr. has finally signed with the University of Washington on National Letter of Intent day along with a very talented 2011 class.

Wroten highlights 4 players signed by Washington
Wroten from Seattle’s Garfield High School; guard Hikeem Stewart from Seattle’s Rainier Beach; 6-foot-10 Jernard Jarreau from New Orleans; and Andrew Andrews from Portland, Ore., signed with the Huskies on Wednesday.

While there’s been plenty of talk locally about about Wroten, Jarreau had a dramatic journey to Washington as well, as described by Todd Dybas of the Seattle PI.

Huskies hoops announces 2011-12 class, led by Wroten
Jarreau originally made a verbal commitment to Virginia Commonwealth University. He changed his mind and committed to the Huskies. The grumbling that came from the change was a result of Washington appearing to do the same thing to VCU that Kentucky did to Washington during the Terrence Jones saga, though the scenarios were different. It’s another he-said, she-said layer of the murky recruiting process.

Don Ruiz of the Tacoma News Tribune also describes two additional details that might affect the group of freshmen that come to Seattle in 2011.

UW Huskies Insider – » Romar names four-man class, 5th coming The News Tribune Blogs, Tacoma, WA
There are two asterisks.

Andrews might wait a year before enrolling depending on UW’s scholarship situation.

Meanwhile, a big man — strongly believed to be Kevin Davis, formerly of Todd Beamer in Federal Way and now at TCC — is expected to sign on in April.

Scott M. Johnson of the Everett Herald writes that this recruiting class ranks third in the Pac-10 according to Rivals.

For an a player-by-player description of the recruiting class, check out Dybas’ description at the Seattle PI.

Wroten On UW: 'I Don't Wanna Go To Somebody Else's State And Make Them Look Good.'

As described by the Seattle Times earlier today, Tony Wroten, Jr. put on a show Saturday at the Clash of the Classes game in Beaverton, Ore.

During the video below, Wroten elaborated on why he chose to commit to the University of Washington.

"It's the best thing for me," said Wroten. "I can do everything in my home state that I can do anywhere else in the country. Plus, I love my city...I don't wanna go to somebody else's state and make them look good - I wanna put up my own state."

Just in case you were unclear about this "everything" Wroten claims to be capable of, here are a few highlights.

But before taking the court in Hec Ed, Wroten has a much more immediate goal: "To win state."

Tony Wroten Commitment Bumps Washington To No. 18 In 2011 Class Rankings

ESPN acted fast in light of today’s commitments by top 100 prospects Tony Wroten Jr. and Jabari Brown. Brown, who is Oregon bound, and Wroten, who chose Washington, both had a substantial impact on the rankings of their respective choices.

According to ESPN, Washington now holds the 18th best recruiting class for 2011 after securing three verbal commitments so far. Oregon, on the other hand, moved up to 14th, holding verbals from two top 100 prospects — Brown and Bruce Barron.

The rankings are by no means final this early on as many classes are just beginning to take shape. Washington is believed to still have two spots open for the class of 2011. The Huskies are waiting on top-ranked forwards Angelo Chol and Norvel Pelle, both of whom have UW high on their list.

With Wroten and fellow Seattle native Hikeem Stewart on board, the next task for Romar and the Dawgs is closing on the two forwards to round out the stellar class. Stewart has already openly stated he’s working on the two, leaving little doubt that Wroten will help his efforts.

While it may be the 18th best now, the addition of Pelle, Chol or both could easily make this the best recruiting class Washington has seen in some time. The two forwards appear to be holding off until the spring to make their decisions, leaving fans waiting and hoping for the best until then.
