The cancelled season opener between the Oregon State Beavers and the Nicholls State Colonels will be played this Saturday in Corvallis.
The Nicholls State Colonels couldn't fly to Corvallis, Ore., to face the Oregon State Beavers on Aug. 30 because of Hurricane Isaac. So 10 games later for the Colonels, they'll finally head to Oregon State to play Saturday at Reser Stadium.
Now, Mike Riley and crew appear No. 15 in the BCS standings. The 8-3 Beavers will host the 1-9 team out of Thibodaux, La. The Southland Conference team hasn't won a single FCS game, and Nicholls State's only victory in the 2012 season came against NAIA school Evangel University of Missouri.
With the obvious advantage, Mike Riley can at least work out the kinks with a bowl invite on the horizon. Most importantly, the Beavers could use the game to get a good look at both Sean Mannion and Cody Vaz at the quarterback position. Mannion has completed 63 percent of his passes for 2,215 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this year, and Vaz has put up 1,096 yards, eight touchdowns and a single interception while completing 57 pecent of his passes.
The game will be the last Pac-12 contest before the bowl season, as Stanford and UCLA will play for the Pac-12 title on Friday night.
Friday
No. 16 UCLA at No. 8 Stanford (5 p.m. PT, FOX)
Saturday
Nicholls State at No. 15 Oregon State (11:30 a.m. PT, Pac-12 Network)
