The FCS champion Eastern Washington Eagles released their 2011 football schedule on Friday and it's not pretty. The Eagles play 11 games during the regular season, only four of which will be played on the red turf of Roos Field where Eastern was a perfect 8-0 in 2010 . Add in the fact that Eastern's season begins in Seattle with a matchup against the Washington Huskies and you have a recipe for a disastrous schedule.
The scheduling snafu appears to have nothing to do with the Big Sky conference. Eastern will split the eight Big Sky games on the schedule in half, playing four on the road and four at home. However, the non-conference schedule was botched completely after the Eagles were unable to secure a home opponent for the 2011 season.
Because of all the issues, Eastern will spend its first three weeks on the road before facing Montana State at Roos Field on Sept. 24. The Eagles will also spend the final two weeks on the road, with the last home game coming on Oct. 24.
Here's the full schedule. For more information, check out the press release.
Sept. 3: at Washington Sept. 10: at South Dakota Sept. 17: at Montana Sept. 24: Montana State Oct. 1: Weber State Oct. 8: at Northern Arizona Oct. 15: Northern Colorado Oct. 22: at *Sacramento State Oct. 29: Portland State Nov. 12: at Cal Poly Nov. 19: at Idaho State
Eastern isn't exactly doing itself any favors here. Nevertheless, the Eagles open the season against the Huskies on Sept. 3 in Seattle as they look to defend their FCS title in 2011.
