Washington vs. Stanford final score: Huskies upset No. 8 Cardinal, 17-13

The Washington Huskies scored 14 unanswered points to shock the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal, 17-13, on Thursday night.

Huskies wide receiver Kasen Williams scored on a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keith Price with 4:53 remaining in the fourth quarter to take the lead. The Cardinal attempted to mount a final drive but it ended on an interception by the Huskies' Desmond Trufant on a 4th and 4 with 1:46 remaining.

The Cardinal had to watch the Huskies celebrate an upset 12 days after the Cardinal had an upset of their own against the USC Trojans.

After almost three quarters of offensive inactivity outside of three field goals total, a pick-six by Cardinal defensive lineman Trent Murphy started a string of points that ended what was a game of defensive struggles.

After Murphy's touchdown, the Huskies answered with a Bishop Sankey 61-yard touchdown run to make it 13-10 at the closing of the third quarter.

Sankey finished with 144 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown and Cardinal running back Stepfan Taylor finished with 75 yards on 21 carries. Price (177 yards) and Cardinal quarterback Josh Nunes (152 yards) both struggled completing passes all night but Price was able to make the one play to give his team the win.

The win breaks a four-game losing streak for the Huskies against top 10 teams.

Box Score Hero: Sankey finished with 144 yards on 20 carries and one 61-yard touchdown. In a game filled with defense, Sankey still came away with numbers.

Rankings Ramifications: The Cardinal will definitely fall out of the top 10 but how far is yet to be seen. They could be in the late teens or early 20s when the rankings come out next week.

Did They Cover?: We're going to go ahead and say ‘no'. Those who picked the Cardinal have upside down smiles right now.

For More On This Game: Check out Rule of Tree for Cardinal reaction and UW Dawg Pound for Huskies reaction.

Next Week's Schedule: Stanford's next game is against Arizona at home on Saturday, Oct. 6. Washington's next game is at No. 2 Oregon on the same day.

Washington vs. Stanford Score: Huskies trail 6-3 at halftime

The Washington Huskies trail No. 8 Stanford 6-3 at halftime. The Cardinal added a late second quarter field goal to take the halftime lead.

The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter and remained tied until Stanford was able to put a drive together at the end of the second half. The Cardinal reached the Husky 10-yardline, but Washington's defense was able to hold Stanford to just a field goal.

The Huskies have limited Stanford to just 134 first half yards. Stepfan Taylor entered the game averaging 112.6 yards per game, but was limited to 46 yards on 11 carries in the first half. The Washington defense did a good job in the first half of getting off the field, allowing Stanford to convert just 2-of-9 third down conversions.

While the Husky defense played well, the Washington offense struggled in the first half, gaining just 138 total yards. Keith Price completed 8-of-18 passing attempts for 76 yards. Bishop Sankey had a strong first half, gaining 63 rushing yards on 10 attempts. Kasen Williams is the only Husky with more than one catch in the game, Williams caught five first half passes for 61 yards.

The Huskies will receive the kickoff to begin the second half.

Washington vs. Stanford Score: Huskies and Cardinal tied 3-3 after 1st quarter

The Washington Huskies are tied 3-3 with the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal after the first quarter of Thursday's game.

Stanford got on the board first with a field goal on its second offensive possession, but Washington was able to add a field goal of its own two possessions later. The Huskies' field goal was set up by a leaping 35-yard reception by Kasen Williams. The play occurred on a third down with Williams just able to get his foot in bounds.

Keith Price completed 4-of-11 passes in the first half for 55 yards. The Huskies have yet to get much of a running game going with Bishop Sankey leading the team with seven rushing yards on two carries. Williams leads the receivers with three catches for 48 yards.

The Husky defense did a good job of slowing Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor in the first quarter; Taylor rushed for 24 yards and was unable to break anything long with a long rush of five yards.

Washington will have possession when the second quarter begins.

Stanford vs. Washington: Game time, TV schedule and more

The Washington Huskies will look to tame an undefeated Stanford team when the Cardinal visit Husky Stadium in a Pac-12 matchup on Thursday night.

Stanford (3-0) is hitting the road for the first time in 2012, and the Huskies will be on the national stage for the first time since they were demolished 41-3 by No. 3 LSU in a Week 2 game in Baton Rouge. The Huskies biggest challenge might be containing a potent Stanford rushing attack. When the two teams squared off last season, the Cardinal ran wild on the Huskies front seven, amassing 446 yards in a 65-21 blowout. Running back Stepfan Taylor used just 10 carries to gain 138 yards on the Huskies porous run defense in last year's game. The 5'11, 215 senior back is coming off a strong game in Week 3 against the No. 13 USC Trojans, in which he rushed for 153 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Huskies (2-1) will likely lean on running back Bishop Sankey to spark the offense. The sophomore back has carried the ball 44 times for 185 yards and three touchdowns this season, and they'll hope to get him going early against a Cardinal run defense that is allowing 149.7 yards per game.

Stanford is currently a 6.5-point favorite, according to OddsShark.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT, and the game will be televised on ESPN. The radio broadcast will be carried on KJR 950 AM.

Washington vs. Stanford: Steve Sarkisian discusses Cardinal game in press conference

Washington Huskies head coach Steve Sarkisian says his team needs to be physical and play mistake-free football to beat the Stanford Cardinal when they match up Sept. 27. Here are some additional highlights from his presser.

Sarkisian said the bye week (which is mandatory for Pac-12 teams playing a Thursday-night contest) definitely helped in terms of preparation and learning from team mistakes.

When Sarkisian talked about what it would take to beat Stanford, he discussed being physical, playing mistake-free football as well as executing offensively. He especially emphasized tackling and maintaining pad level defensively, which was a weak point in last year's team and allowed Stanford to run up and down the field on Washington.

Some good bits of injury news also trickled out from Sarkisian, as he expects both linebackers Nate Fellner and Jamaal Kearse to return from injury. The return of those two Huskies should greatly improve overall team defense. Additionally, Travis Coons will attempt the first punt on Thursday just to try out a new leg, as starter Korey Durkee has really struggled.
