Seahawks Sign TE Evan Moore

After releasing tight end Kellen Winslow earlier on Saturday, the Seahawks announced the signing of tight end Evan Moore later in the day.

Moore, a veteran entering his fifth year in the NFL after going undrafted out of Stanford in the 2008 NFL Draft, was released by the Browns in final cuts on Friday. Prior to the release, Moore had spent three seasons with the team, appearing in 33 games and starting eight of them. He caught 62 career receptions with the team for 804 yards and five touchdowns.

Danny Kelly of SB Nation's Seahawks blog, Field Gulls, attributes the move to replace Winslow with Moore as one intended to not only save money but provide Seattle with a younger and possibly more athletic tight end:

Evidently, the Seahawks see Moore as a better value, as Winslow was due $3.3 million this year - a number that was set to escalate steeply next year - and the former Brown is a younger and possibly more athletic option.
