Seahawks Waive TE Kellen Winslow, According To Report

The Seattle Seahawks waived TE Kellen Winslow on Saturday.

His departure means Seattle currently has two tight ends on the roster ahead of the season-opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The news comes is a bit of a surprise, as the Seahawks trimmed their roster down to the NFL-mandated 53 players yesterday. ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news:

Winslow came to the Seahawks during the offseason from the Tampa Bay Bucanneers in exchange for a conditional draft pick. The physically gifted tight end has a reputation for being a problem in the locker room.

His on-field play has not been an issue. He caught 75 passes for 763 yards in 2011 and is one of the more productive pass-catching tight ends in the NFL.
