2012 Olympics Medal Count: USA Extends Lead Over China On Wednesday

2012 Olympic Games have only a few more days in London, and the United States is well out in front in the latest medal count after a medal-filled Wednesday for American athletes.

The United States added 8 medals on Wednesday, including gold for Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in women's beach volleyball, Brittany Reese in the women's long jump, Allyson Felix in the women's 200 meter, and Lashinda Demus claiming the silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles as well.

America now has 81 total medals, with 34 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze now safely in their kitty. Behind them sits China with 77 total medals, consisting of 36 gold, 22 silver and 19 bronze. Russia is in a distant third with 52 medals, hosts Great Britain in fourth with 48 medals, and Germany rounding out the top five with 32 medals.
