NFL Cuts: Deon Butler Cut By Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks announced on Friday they have cut wide receiver Deon Butler as the team heads for the 53-player roster deadline.

The fourth-year receiver and former third-round pick survived the coaching change from Jim Mora to Pete Carroll but faced tough competition from Doug Baldwin and Charly Martin. The receiving corps got even more crowded when the team signed Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens, although Owens would later be cut.

The Penn State product had a career year in 2010 when he hauled in 36 receptions for 385 yards. Butler's 2011 campaign was cut short by a gruesome leg injury that kept him on the sidelines for the final 11 games of the season. Butler was in the last year of his contract.

Martin is reported to be safe by Seattle Times beat reporter Danny 'O Neill.
