The Oregon Ducks were ranked No. 5 in the 2012 AP Preseason poll.

The Oregon Ducks are ranked No. 5 in the AP Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Ducks are the only member of the top five to not receive a first-place vote. No. 1 in the rankings went to the USC Trojans, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide, the LSU Tigers, Oklahoma and then the Ducks.

The ranking is consistent with the No. 5 spot Oregon earned in the 2012 Preseason Coaches' poll and a step down from the No. 4 ranking in SB Nation's Blogpoll. The team appears not to have benefited from LSU's dismissal of star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, but a new, post-Mathieu Blogpoll is due out soon.

The release of each poll means we move closer and closer to the start of the season. Oregon football kicks off Sept. 1 when the Ducks play host to Arkansas State.
