It was a great day for a bike ride in Hampton Court, England on Wednesday as the men's cycling individual time trials got underway. And fresh off his Tour de France victory, Great Britain's own Bradley Wiggins won the gold medal in the time trial, forever etching his name in British Olympic history.

The Tour champion took care of business on the 44-kilometer course south of London to win his seventh Olympic medal, taking over the record in Britain as the most decorated olympiad that he previously shared with rowing great Steve Redgrave. Wiggins owned the course in 50 minutes, 39.54 seconds, beating silver medalist Tony Martin of Germany by 42 seconds. Tour runner-up Christopher Froome of Britain won the bronze.

Wiggins became the first rider to win the Tour de France and the Olympic time trial in the same year. Prime Minister David Cameron hailed the cyclist on Twitter as a "True British hero."
