Olympic Games 2012: Hope Solo Shuts Down North Korea 1-0

There was a lot of justified hullaballoo surrounding Michael Phelps today as he took home medals number 18 and 19 to become the most decorated Olympian in all of history.

The U.S. women's gymnastic team lived up to their immense hype for the first time since 1996 and also took home the gold, very comfortably beating the Russian squad. The U.S. team has come into the past two Olympics as the top ranked team only to fall short of the gold.

On the local front, the representatives didn't fare so well. Ariana Kukors was one of the favorites in the 200-meter individual medley but she finished in fifth place, 2.26 seconds behind. Fellow American Caitlin Leverenz placed third in that race however.

Seattle native Travis Stevens just missed out on a bronze medal in judo ad he lost to Germany's Bischof Ole. Ole would eventually go onto win the silver medal.

Hope Solo and the U.S. women's soccer team took care of business, beating the North Korean's 1-0. The Lady American's have scored tournament high eight goals in their three wins, and Solo hasn't given up a goal since the 14th minute of their opener.
