The Olympics almost wouldn't be complete without her.
Seattle Storm star guard Sue Bird is known for her participation in the Olympics. After all, this will be her third Olympic games as she looks for her third gold medal as a member of the powerhouse that is the USA women's basketball team.
Bird won gold in 2004 in Beijing and in 2008 in Athens as she looks to continue a string of dominance by the USA team that goes back to the 1990s.
Bird also has two World Championship titles to her name (2002, 2010) and that's before we even get to her collegiate and WNBA accolades.
2002 Naismith, Wade Trophy and Associated Press Player of the Year awards while a senior at UConn. She's also a member of the WNBA All-Decade Team (1997-2006) and a two-time WNBA champion.
Other than that, nobody really knows why she is on the team. She seems like a bit of a reach.
The USA women's basketball team is in Group A with Angola, China, Croatia, Czech Republic and Turkey with games starting on July 28.
