2012 Olympics Preview: Guide To Pacific Northwest Athletes Competing In The Summer Games

The Seattle area will be sending nearly 20 athletes to the 2012 Olympics. Hope Solo is among the locals competing for gold in London.

When the 2012 Olympics get underway beginning on July 27, the Pacific Northwest will be represented by nearly 20 athletes trying to help the United States bring home some all-important hardware in the Summer Games.

Which U.S. athletes will you need to cheer for the loudest? We have the full list of athletes with ties to the area for you right here in one handy location.

From Spokane, Amy LePeilbet will be playing for the U.S. women's national soccer team. Also on the team is Richland native and Washington Huskies alumni Hope Solo, who will be in net as the women try to take home the gold.

Jarred Rome of Seattle will be participating in discus, while Kara Patterson competes in javelin. Aretha Thurmond from UW will also participate in discus.

Nathan Adrian of Bremerton will be competing in the 100m freestyle and 400 free relay swimming events, while Ariana Kukors of Federal Way and UW competes in the 200 IM.

Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm will be on the women's national basketball team.

Jame Nieto of Seattle will compete in the high jump. Quanitta "Queen" Underwood, also from Seattle, will be participating in the newly-minted women's boxing event, in the lightweight division.

Tyler Farrar and Tejay van Garderen, fresh from the Tour de France, will compete in road cycling, while Jennie Reed of UW and Kirkland will participate in track cycling.

Adrienne Lyle of Whidbey Island will participate in the individual dressage competition in the equestrian events.

Travis Stevens of Bellevue and Marti Malloy from Oakk Harbor will both be on the Olympic judo team.

Amanda Furrer of Spokane will be part of the shooting event.

Courtney Thompson from the Washington Huskies will participate in the indoor volleyball competition.
