It wasn’t the prettiest of All-Star games as the North (the division that the Jackson Generals are in) lost for the first time in eight years by a score of 6-2. Things got off to a great start after Danny Hultzen did his usual thing (0 R in one inning of work) and Denny Almonte led off the game with a home run, giving the North a 1-0 lead.
But errors by Nick Franklin (0-for-3 with a walk) and Jesus Sucre (0-for-2 with a walk) helped contribute to the loss, as well as a shaky appearance from phenom Taijuan Walker (R allowed, hit batter.) So no, it was not the best you could ever hope for from the Mariners prospects, but on the bright side Joe Dunigan won the HR Derby. Oh, and Hultzen and Franklin are being promoted as expected.
Hultzen leaves AA with a 1.19 ERA in 75.1 innings with 79 K/32 BB. Franklin leaves behind a .322/.394/.502 triple slash with 4 HR, 26 RBI, 38 K/24 BB, 9 SB, 17 doubles and 4 triples. He is survived by Francisco Martinez.
You can bet that we’ll be very on top of it when Hultzen makes his first AAA start, which should come this weekend against Colorado Springs.
