Mariners Minors Thursday Update

A look around yesterdays action in the Mariners minor leagues:

AAA Tacoma Rainiers lose to Reno 13-5:

The Rainiers moved down to 23-30, last place in the PCL North, after getting their butts handed to them by Reno. Anthony Vazquez gave up nine runs and thirteen hits in 4.1 innings. Vazquez now has a 6.22 ERA in ten starts on the season.

Trayvon Robinson was 3-for-5 and is hitting .333 over his last ten games. Casper Wells was 1-for-3 with a double and is hitting .350 for Tacoma in six games. Vinnie Catricala is heating up a little bit after a terrible start to the season, going 2-for-4. He’s hitting .279/.311/.488 in his last ten games.

Jeff Marquez gets the start for Tacoma tonight.

AA Jackson Generals lose 7-3 to Pensacola:

Taylor Stanton only went 2.2 innings and gave up nine hits and six earned runs. Mauricio Robles, demoted from a starter in Tacoma to a reliever in Jackson went 3.1 innings, giving up 0 hits and striking out five.

Nick Franklin was 2-for-4 and is now hitting .342.

Lefty James Paxton recently hit the 7-day DL but it shouldn’t be too serious.

Tonight’s game was postponed.

High Desert loses 9-1 to Modesto:

The Mavericks managed only three hits off of the Modesto Nuts’ Tyler Matzek. SS Brad Miller was 1-for-3 with a double and is hitting .341/.471/.463 in his last ten games.

Anthony Fernandez took the loss. Angel Raga gets the start tonight.

Clinton Loses to Kane County by a score of 13-10:

Finally, another M’s minor league team, another loss, another bad pitching outing. Jeremy Dobbs went 4 innings for the Lumberkings and gave up eight hits and six earned runs.

Ramon Morla and Jharmidy DeJesus each homered for Clinton and Jamal Austin was 3-for-6. Austin is hitting .311/.354/.444 in his last ten games. Ji-Man Choi was 1-for-5 and is hitting .355/.429/.484 in eight games since his 2012 debut.

Clinton falls to 18-34.

Jordan Shipers, who has a 2.45 ERA in ten starts, was set to start but their game was also debuted and moved to a double header tomorrow.

So, theme for the M’s yesterday: Lose, give up a lot of runs, get postponed today. The major league team scored more runs yesterday than all of the minor league teams combined. (Not including the VSL Mariners, who scored 2, if that counts!)
