Seattle Mariners top prospect Taijuan Walker didn’t have his best start of the season today, but did pick up his fourth win on the year, beating Montgomery by a score of 4-2. Walker went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts, and 2 walks.
He also had a .67 groundout-to-flyout ratio.
Left fielder Chris Pettit went 2-for-4 with a home run and SS Nick Franklin went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Franklin is now hitting .333/.399/.504 on the season with six stolen bases. He’s hitting .382/.475/.618 over his last ten games. That kind of production could get him to Tacoma soon and right on the cusp of the majors and we know how badly the Mariners need some hitting help.
Carter Capps picked up his fifth save of the season with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Capps, a future closer candidate, now has a 1.78 ERA on the season.
