Danny Hultzen with Career-High 12 Strikeouts

You know that the politically correct thing to say is “I don’t care how I do individually as long as the team wins” but in Minor League Baseball that isn’t really true. I don’t care how the team does as long as you looked great.

The Generals lost 2-1 yesterday but Danny Hultzen was a beast.

6 innings, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 12 K

Hultzen, the 2nd overall pick last June by the Seattle Mariners, managed double-digit strikeouts for the first time in his young career and after struggling with control earlier in the season, he has only walked two batters in his last 13 innings with 20 strikeouts.

By posting a 20:2 K:BB ratio in 13 innings, Hultzen looks even better than the pitcher the Mariners thought they were getting when they selected him over bigger names like Trevor Bauer and Dylan Bundy. (Not to say that Hultzen is now the best prospect, but if he keeps pitching like this, he’ll be a star in the majors, not just a #3 starter like some people still want to believe.

For the season, he now has a 1.78 ERA in 50.2 innings with 56 K and 25 BB. A few more starts like this and Hultzen will be in AAA Tacoma soon, if not the Majors.
