A horse has not won the Triple Crown in nearly 40 years. After I'll Have Another won the 2012 Kentucky Derby two weeks ago and knocked off favorite Bodemeister, it seemed inevitable that there would be no Triple Crown winner for yet another year.
And then on Saturday, everything changed.
I'll Have Another chased down Bodemeister once again in the home stretch of the 2012 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and is now one little win away from taking home the most elusive title in sports. The Belmont Stakes will not be an easy victory, but I'll Have Another has proved now that he cannot be counted out, no matter how far behind he is in the home stretch.
Here are the full results from the 2012 Preakness Stakes:
1. I'll Have Another
2. Bodemeister
3. Creative Cause
4. Zetterholm
5. Teeth of the Dog
6. Optimizer
7. Cozzetti
8. Tiger Walk
9. Deddy Nose Best
10. Went the Day Well
11. Pretension

I'll Have Another won the 2012 Preakness Stakes on Sunday, running down Bodemeister in the closing stretch. It almost seemed a replay of the 2012 Kentucky Derby, with Bodemeister again in front for much of the race and I'll Have Another closing the gap in the final stretch and winning by a neck.
Jockey Mario Gutierrez made his move late, but I'll Have Another was good for the accelleration and was able to chase down Bodemeister. The race had been run at a slightly slow pace, which some thought would be to Bodemeister's advantage, but as it turned out I'll Have Another handled that just fine. Creative Cause came in third. I'll Have Another now moves on to try for the third jewel in the Triple Crown, something that has not been successfully attempted since 1978.

Coverage of the 137th Preakness Stakes will be available online, so everyone will be able to tune in for I'll Have Another's bid at advancing closer to the Triple Crown. That's an achievement that has eluded anyone in horse racing since 1978. I'll Have Another was over to overcome Bodemeister at the Kentucky Derby, and he'll have to do so again in the Preakness.
Bodemeister is the odds-on favorite as he was in Kentucky, with odds currently at 7/4. Odds for I'll Have Another are at 5/2. They both drew favorable post positoins, with Bodemeister at number seven and I'll Have Another in ninth. That should help both avoid the fate that befell Derby contender Union Rags, who was stuck in traffic at the rail and was unable to factor into the finish. Union Rags is sitting the Preakness out. Other horses to watch on Saturday are Went The Day Well, with odds of 6/1, and Creative Cause, with odds of 7/1.
Online coverage begins at 4:30pm EDT (1:30pm PDT) over at NBC Sports.
