Rainiers Lose, Generals Lose, Hultzen v Bauer on Thursday!

The Mariners Minor League teams have played some games today, but more importantly first: Taijuan Walker “should be just fine” as farm director Chris Gwynn told Larry Stone.

PHEW!

Now that the long national nightmare is over, here’s what’s happened so far today:

Forrest Snow continued his reign of terrible terror today, allowing 7 runs, 6 earned, in four innings of work with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Snow has made eight starts this season and allowed 4 or more earned runs in all but one of them. His season ERA now sites at 8.17!

Snow is only 23, and maybe (no, definitely) doesn’t belong in AAA. At some point, will he switch with one of the big three in Jackson?

After that, Chance Ruffin came in and allowed 4 ER in 1.2 innings and his ERA is at 9.55. Man, wouldn’t it have been nice if Drew Smyly was the PTBNL in the Doug Fister trade last season? One the bright side, Stephen Pryor made his fourth appearance since being promoted from AA and struck out two in two innings. He now has 6 innings, 1 H, 9 Ks, and 3 BBs for the Rainiers.

The Rainiers ended up losing to Round Rock by a score of 11-3. Trayvon Robinson was 1-for-5 with a two-run home run.

Pryors former team, the Jackson Generals, ended up losing to Tennessee by a score of 10-8. Brandon Maurer got the start and allowed 5 ER in 2 innings, with 7 hits allowed, 2 K and 2 BB. Mauricio Robles pitched two innings of relief, allowing 2 ER and walking 4 without a strikeout.

The Generals have the day off tomorrow but watch out for Thursday’s highlight game when #2 pick Danny Hultzen faces off against #3 pick Trevor Bauer.

Finally, the Venezuala Summer League has officially kicked off and the VSL Mariners beat the VSL Rays by a score of 6-4. There’s usually not much to see in this short-leagues and it’s hard to really tell who is good based on numbers. 3B Yordi Calderon is repeating the league and was considered one of the better players there last season.
