The result of round three at the 2012 Players Championship was up in the air until the final seconds, as Kevin Na took advantage of Matt Kuchar's struggles and ascended to first place. Matt Kuchar looked to be headed toward sole posession of the lead, but late struggles saw Kevin Na snatch the lead away. Kuchar followed up his dual 68 rounds from rounds one and two with a 69 in round three. He was cruising through the day until about hole 14, where he got a bogey. He'd get another on 16 and 17 sinking the ball on that legendary hole. He ended the day at 3-under and 11-under overall, leaving him in second place. Kevin Na seemed stuck at par much of the day, collecting only two birdies and no bogies through the first 15 holes. He picked up one on hole 16, hit par on 17, and birdied again on 18 to sneak to 12-under and grab the lead.
The other performance of the day was Rickie Fowler, who climbed 14 places with a score of 66, settling at 9-under par for the tournament. He and Na have a lot of momentum going into round three, while Kuchar will have to try to change direction and get back to the form he had in the first half of the day. Things are close going into the final round, so expect the tension to be high on sunday.
