2012 MLS Standings: Sounders FC In Good Shape Through Five Games

The Sounders FC are off to their best start in franchise history with ten points accumulated through five games played. At 3-1-1, the Sounders are tied for third place in the Western Conference with FC Dallas. Real Salt Lake is in first place with 15 points and a 5-2 record, while the San Jose Earthquakes are in second place with 13 points and a 4-1-1 record.

Saturday's 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids put the Sounders into the top half of the Western conference standings. This week the Sounders have a bye with the team returning to action on Saturday, April 28th against the Chicago Fire (1-1-2) at Bridgeview, IL.

The Sounders' goal on Saturday came from an unlikely head — that of Zach Scott's to be exact. Scott's header off of a corner kick in the 63rd minute was the difference-maker in Saturday's result.

If the Sounders can continue to get production from its usual offensive threats supplemented by surprise contributions from players like Scott, this team will continue to rise up the Western Conference standings.

2012 MLS Standings: Sounders FC Fall To Fifth Place In Western Conference

The Sounders' first loss of the season dropped the team to fifth place in the MLS Western Conference standings over the weekend. The team's 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes placed Seattle in the lower half of the Western Conference.

Seattle currently has six points, while Real Salt Lake, San Jose, Colorado and Vancouver all have collected eight or nine points. The season is still early and as a result, the Sounders could easily jump back into the top half of the standings with a win this weekend against the D.C. United.

The Sounders' Eddie Johnson may make his return in Saturday's game against D.C.. Saturday's game in Washington D.C. will be the Sounders' first game on the road this season.

The D.C. United are 1-2-1 on the season with their sole win being a 4-1 win against FC Dallas on Saturday.
