Seattle Mariners left-handed pitching prospect Danny Hultzen made the second start of his minor league career on Friday and was much more dominant than he was in start one. Hultzen went 5.2 innings and allowed only one hit while striking out nine but two runs scored in the sixth, none earned, when Steven Hensley gave up a double in relief.
Hultzen is now 0-2 but has 16 strikeouts and 6 walks in 9.2 innings with 5 hits allowed.
Denny Almonte went 3-for-4 and Daniel Carroll homered for Jackson in the 4-1 loss, dropping Jackson to 7-2 on the year.
Meanwhile in Clinton, the Lumberkings fell to the Beloit Snappers by a score of 5-2. Jordan Shipers went 6 innings and struck out six with only one walk allowed but four runs were scored off of relief pitcher Wes Alsup.
Jharmidy DeJesus went 2-for-4 for Clinton.
The High Desert Mavericks game was postponed.
