The Portsmouth Invitational is underway in Virginia. This four day tournament showcases the 64 best senior college basketball players in the nation. Washington's Will Conroy, Bobby Jones and Jon Brockman have all participated in the tournament with all of them landing on an NBA roster at one point in their post-Husky careers.

This year, there are no Huskies participating, but David Michaels, a Division III standout from Whitman College in Walla Walla received an invitation to play in the tournament.

Michaels joins elite company as only five other players from the Division III level have ever been invited in the tournament's 60-year existence. What's even more amazing about Michaels' story is that he averaged under ten points a game in his junior season before having a breakout senior season.

John Jaso drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single to score Michael Saunders from third base. • The spring signing period began on Wednesday for the Washington Huskies basketball program. Mark McLaughlin signed his LOI and will be a Husky next season — but what about the highly touted Anthony Bennett? The departures of Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten open up two scholarship spots, seeing who fills these spots could decide whether this team can compete with a reloaded UCLA and talented Arizona squad in the Pac-12 next season.

• Terrence Ross was named Washington's MVP of the 2011-12 season at the team's postseason banquet on Wednesday. Tyreese Breshers, Brendan Sherrer and Darnell Gant all reflected on their time at UW at the banquet.
