NFL Draft 2012: LaMichael James Hosted By Detroit Lions

LaMichael James of the Oregon Ducks is one of those guys who is flying under the radar before the 2012 NFL Draft. James was an explosive runner in college, but there are concerns about his size at the next level. If he pans out though

The Detroit Lions are the ones who are looking at LaMichael now. Tim Twentyman of Lions Insider has more.

The Lions are certainly keeping their options open at the position and hosted former Oregon running back LaMichael James on Wednesday for a pre-draft visit.

James (5-9, 195) is similar in both stature and ability to Best. He is a speed back who is great in space and is also a terrific receiver.

James posted 4.42 and 4.41 marks in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day – which the Lions attended – and was "extremely quick" in position drills, according to most reports.

The Lions do need a running back to complement the passing game. Detroit has a great aerial attack led by Calvin Johnson and a decent quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but their running game lacks punch. Jahvid Best gets injured a lot and Kevin Smith isn't an effective three down runner. James could be part of a rotation if he works out alright, which could go a ways to making Detroit a more efficient offensive team.
