The 2012 NCAA Tournament's Round of 32 rolls into Portland on Saturday evening. The Rose Garden will play host to a pair of night games in the third round of competition, the first of which pits the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers against the No. 12 Va. Commonwealth Rams. Through one half of play, VCU is taking it right to the higher-ranked team and proving the tenacity and game plan that helped the team make their amazing run in the 2011 edition of the event. The first half featured the Rams ahead for much of play. The game enters halftime with VCU ahead by the slimmest of margins, 42-41. Indiana is powering back heading into halftime.
The Rams benefited from a call in the final three minutes. Indiana was called for a flagrant foul for a glancing elbow, which VCU turned into a lightning-fast seven unanswered points, pushing their lead to 42-33 with under 2:00 left in the half. Indiana's Christian Watford responded with back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute, to cut the lead right back down.
Neither team is having problems scoring. Both squads are shooting well over 50% from the floor through the first half, with Indiana in particular shooting over 60%.
Bradford Burgess of VCU is leading scorers with 12 points.
