NCAA Bracket 2012 Update: Scores, Results, & Observations

Day one of March Madness is in the books. Eight teams will move on to the Round of 32 after winning their second round games on Thursday.

No. 6 Murray State 58, No. 11 Colorado State 41 -- The Racers' magical season continued after a sound victory over Colorado State. Donte Poole took an inadvertant elbow to his face that took him out of the action in the second half, however, he returned at the 11:23 mark and made a layup to put Murray State up by 15 points.

No. 8 Kansas State 70, No. 9 Souther Miss 64 -- For the first time in school history, Kansas State has advanced to the Round of 32 in three straight seasons. Rodney McGruder scored a game-high 30 points for the Wildcats. Kansas State's offense made 50 percent of its shots from the field.

No. 4 Louisville 69, No. 13 Davidson 62 -- Peyton Siva and the Cardinals move to the Round of 32 for the first time since 2009 after downing the Wildcats. Siva finished with 17 points and six assists in the victory. The Cardinals did most of their work inside after only attempting five three-point field goal attempts — the fewest by a winning tournament team since 2004.

No. 3 Wisconsin 73, No. 15 Montana 49 -- The Badgers were 10-for-19 from three-point land along with 17-for-19 from the free-throw line in their blowout victory over the Grizzlies on Thursday. Jordan Taylor scored 17 points and distributed six assists in the win.

No. 3 Marquette 88, No. 14 BYU 68 -- BYU failed to pull off another amazing comeback and were dominated by Marquette on Thursday. Big East Player of the Year Jae Crowder scored 25 points and grabbed 16 points for the Golden Eagles.

No. 1 Syracuse 72, No. 16 UNC-Asheville 65 -- History repeats itself, yet again. The Orange escaped UNC-Asheville and kept the No. 1 seeds record undefeated in the NCAA tournament. Syracuse got key play from reserve forward James Southerland after trailing UNC-Asheville with just over six minutes left in the game.

No. 5 New Mexico 75, No. 12 Long Beach State 68 -- Four Lobos finished in double-digits, including Drew Gordon who scored a game-high 18 points for New Mexico.

No. 5 Vanderbilt 79, No. 12 Harvard 70 -- Vanderbilt's John Jenkins scored 27 points, with six of them being late free-throws to help his team hold off the Crimson. The Commodores shot 54. 3 percent from the field in the win.
