NFL Combine 2012: Bellevue Native David DeCastro Impresses

Bellevue High School grad and former Stanford star David DeCastro is cementing his status as this year's top guard at the NFL Combine. DeCastro has impressed scouts with his agility, athleticism, and strength, as he put up 225 pounds 34 times on the bench. Simply put, he has teams with a need at guard intrigued. As National Football Post's Wes Bunting put it,

Stanford OG David DeCastro didn't lace the fastest of 40 times, running in the 5.3 range. However, he looked very coordinated during positional drills. He was able to keep his base down, maintain balance laterally and showcased "plus" change of direction skills. Honestly, if I had a need at guard, I wouldn't have any qualms using a top ten pick on this him.

The idea of David DeCastro making a homecoming to Seattle has many intrigued - the Seahawks don't have a great need at guard but at the 12th spot the team may find themselves facing a 'best player available' mindset over looking at positional needs. Regardless, he's a guy that is one of the most highly touted guards since Steven Hutchinson was back in 2001, and it's pretty fun to imagine an offensive line that features Russell Okung and DeCastro on the left side for the next half dozen seasons. The Seahawks have hammered home the idea that they're fully committed to the run so it really wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Fox Sports Next's Annabel Stephan caught up with him in this exclusive interview. Check it out.
