Seahawks DC Gus Bradley a future head coaching candidate?

Stephen Brashear

After turning the Seahawks defense into a powerhouse, Gus Bradley should get his portfolio ready for January.

Posting on his Shutdown Corner blog on Tuesday, Yahoo!'s Brian McIntyre posited that current Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley should be ready to interview for a head coaching job this off-season. With no less than five jobs appearing to be in jeopardy already, there should be plenty of opportunities for Bradley to show his wares to potential teams in January.

Bradley got his first coaching job in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coaching their linebackers in 2007 and 2008. After being hired as the DC in Seattle by Jim Mora the following year, Bradley was one of two coaches retained when Seahawks replaced Jim Mora with Pete Carroll.

Under his and Carroll's direction, the Seattle defense has become a force, allowing the fourth-fewest yards per game to opposing offenses with 309.2 per contest. They have done so with unorthodox personnel and an emphasis on physicality. The league and fans are starting to recognize the impact Gus Bradley can have, with three members of his secondary making the Pro Bowl after last season: Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and Brandon Browner.
