Talent runs deep. The Trufant family is representing their small corner of the world by bringing football glory to the CenturyLink Field at every level. This weekend, three brothers - Marcus, Isaiah, and Desmond Trufant - will play football in their home state of Washington and at least one of them will leave a victor.
Marcus, at 31, is the elder statesmen, having been drafted into the NFL by the Seahawks in 2003. The oldest brother has been a stalwart in the league, having since played in a Super Bowl and a Pro Bowl. Isaiah is the middle brother and football journeyman. He played in the Arena League, the UFL and bounced around on practice squads before settling in as the New York Jets fifth defensive back.
These two will square off when the Jets visit the Seahawks on Sunday for a 1:05 p.m. PT game. But before the two pros take the field, younger brother Desmond will try to make an impression on the field in his own right. As a senior cornerback for the Washington, the Huskies co-captain will play in a game against Utah on Saturday, the first Trufant to see action at the CLink on this particular weekend.
"That's actually really cool," said Marcus, a Washington State alum, "To have all three of us in the same weekend, playing on the same field, that's really something. Growing up as kids, when we played in the backyard, I didn't even know something like that could happen."
About playing against his younger brother Isaiah, "It means a lot, man. He's put in a lot of time to make it to this level. He took the long road... He's a hard worker."
This weekend should make the whole Trufant clan proud, who plan to be in attendance in droves. Their parents report a total of 55 family members will attend either or both games, but what jersey will they wear on Sunday? Split jerseys of course, one side Marcus' No. 23 and the other Isaiah's No. 35.
