Washington vs. Cal: Marquee matchups

Bob Stanton-US PRESSWIRE

The Huskies' defense has emerged as a strength this year, how does UW match up with Cal's offense?

Coming off its 20-17 upset win over Oregon State, Washington is riding a nice wave of momentum into Berkley on Friday night, where the Huskies will battle the fellow 4-4 California Golden Bears, who are coming of a loss of their own to Utah.

Despite knocking off two Top 10 teams at home this season, the Huskies have struggled on the road, being blown out by LSU, Oregon and Arizona.

Now, UW faces a team that it matches up just a tad better with, but getting a win in the Bay Area will be no easy task.

UW Dawg Pound has previewed Cal's offense, which isn't short on weapons.

The Bears run a pro-style offense that is built around distributing the ball as often as possible to All-American receiver Keenan Allen, pictured above, who became Cal's all-time reception leader last week (his 205 catches ranks just ahead of Geoff McArthur's 202). Opposing defense are kept from keying in on the pass thanks to a trio of talented running backs in seniors Isi Sofele and C.J. Anderson and sophomore Brendan Bigelow...

While the Bears have talent at the skill positions that could cause problems for the Huskies, they have struggled at QB and along the offensive line, making it hard to utilize said weapons.

If UW can find a way to improve the play of its defense on the road, the Dawgs stand a good chance at leaving Memorial Stadium with a win.
