Seahawks stretch lead over Vikes to 27-20 after 3

The Seattle Seahawks have built on their lead and have a 27-20 advantage over the Minnesota Vikings after three quarters. A Marshawn Lynch touchdown run put them 10 points up before a field goal late in the quarter made it a one-score game again.

The Seahawks' seven-point lead after the first quarter was cut down to 20-17 at halftime, but Lynch made sure that Seattle would stretch that out a bit more. He found the end zone from three yards out to cap a nine-play, 72-yard drive and give the Seahawks a 27-17 lead.

Lynch has had a monster day, racking up 101 yards on 16 carries to lead Seattle. He's gotten plenty of help from Russell Wilson, too, who has completed 12 of 18 passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns.

But Lynch's day is being dwarfed by Adrian Peterson, who has 170 yards on 16 carries. That has made up for Christian Ponder's awful day. He is 10-for-17 for 58 yards.

The Vikings got back within one score on their last drive of the quarter. Blair Walsh nailed a 55-yard field goal, but there was some controversy. Replays showed that the play clock expired before Minnesota got the snap off on the kick and while Pete Carroll yelled at the referees, it did no good.

Seahawks holding onto 20-17 halftime lead

The Seattle Seahawks had a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and have held on to the lead, 20-17, after two periods, but it won't be there for much longer if they can't slow down Adrian Peterson. The Minnesota Vikings running back is punishing the Seahawks and carrying the offense while Christian Ponder struggles to do anything remotely positive. The result is a three-point halftime lead for Seattle, which it only has because of a late touchdown pass.

Peterson already has 142 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. So while Ponder is just 7-for-13 for 42 yards, the Minnesota offense hasn't slowed at all. It is still moving the ball, all thanks to Peterson.

Peterson plunged into the end zone from four yards early in the second quarter to tie things up before an eight-play drive set up a field goal that put the visitors in front.

Th Seahawks got the lead back late, though. They went 80 yards on 12 plays, the last of which was a 11-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate, his second score of the game. The extra point was no good, but the touchdown was still enough for the Seahawks to regain the lead.

Russell Wilson has been very efficient again, completing 10 of 16 passes for 10 yards and three touchdowns Marshawn Lynch has been good, too, picking up 62 yards on 12 carries, but this one will come down to whether the Seahawks' defense can stop Peterson.

Seahawks come back to tak 14-7 lead on Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks gave up the opening score to the Minnesota Vikings, a one-yard run by Adrian Peterson, but then came back with consecutive touchdown drives to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Sidney Rice keyed the Seahawk's second touchdown drive, catching a 23-yard pass from Russell Wilson, then throwing a 25-yard pass to Zack Miller. The wideout then got back to what he does best, reeling in a 11-yard toss from Russell Wilson for the go-ahead score. It was all Sidney Rice, all the time.

The touchdown came on the feels of another Seattle touchdown drive, which got them even after Peterson's opening tally. Marcus Trufant stripped the ball from Percy Harvin to give Seattle the ball on the Minnesota 17-yard line and set up a Wilson touchdown pass.

Minnesota is killing Seattle on the ground, with over 100 yards rushing, but Chris Ponder has been dreadful. Meanwhile, Wilson continues to be accurate and efficient tossing the ball around the field. So does Rice, who is 1-for-1.

NFL Films previews Seahawks-Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, in a clash between two of the league's toughest defenses. Seattle allows just 16.8 points per game, which is third-best in the NFL. Minnesota is tied for third with 23 sacks so far this season.

The Seahawks pass less often than any other team in the league, averaging just 26.3 passing attempts per game. Marshawn Lynch's mark of 4.8 yards per carry ranks second in the league among running backs with at least 150 carries. He trails only Minnesota's Adrian Peterson in that category. Peterson is on his way to another great season, with 775 rushing yards through his first eight games.

Seattle's stadium provides the Seahawks with a significant home field advantage. The Seahawks are 3-0 at home this season, with impressive victories over the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and New England Patriots.
