College basketball conference play is underway with Gonzaga looking like the state's best team this season. The Zags came in at No. 6 in the NCAA's latest RPI rankings released on Monday. Gonzaga has compiled wins against Arizona, Oral Roberts, Butler and Xavier — all top 100 RPI teams. If the Bulldogs take care of business in West Coast conference play, then they should have no problem in securing another NCAA tournament berth.
Washington is looking to keep its momentum going after dominating the Oregon schools at home last weekend. Freshmen phenom Tony Wroten was awarded Pac-12 Player of the Week for his impressive performance against Oregon and Oregon St. Wroten leads all Pac-12 freshman in scoring (16.9 ppg) and steals (1.6 spg). Wroten only committed four turnovers in two games — he'll need to continue to decrease his turnovers to keep up his elite level of play.
Lastly, Washington St. will try and move into the top half of the Pac-12 after splitting against the Oregon schools. The Cougars will need a pair of big games from junior forward Brock Motum. Motum has proven to be the the Cougars' main offensive option; he is the only Pac-12 player to ranked in the top-10 in scoring (14.9 ppg) and field goal percentage (55.8%). He broke out for 26 points and three three-pointers in the team's victory over Oregon St.
