NFL Free Agency 2011: Seahawks Sign ASU Receiver Brandon Smith

Stay connected for news and updates

The Seattle Seahawks have added wide receiver Brandon Smith to their team after cutting injured tackle Caz Piurowski. Smith will get his first shot with an NFL team after a long college career.

Smith spent six seasons at ASU. After redshirting in 2005, Smith played three years before sustaining a severe in jury in 2009. He was granted an extra year of eligibility in 2010 due to the injury.

Though he played seven games in 2010, Smith did not see much playing time at ASU overall. He played 11 games in 2006 but saw very little playing time over the next two seasons, appearing in zero games in 2007 and in only one game during the 2008 season. Over his entire Sun Devil career, Smith had only 196 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith, however, does have the speed to make plays in the NFL and will likely see some playing time over the Seahawks' final three preseason games. Regardless of how much he plays over the next few weeks, however, Smith's addition does help the Seahawks by shoring up their wide receiving corps.
