Washington Vs. Nevada: Burton's 31 Points Lift Wolf Pack Over Huskies In OT

Deonte Burton simply could not be stopped. Nevada's sophomore guard tallied 31 points including a game-tying three-pointer in the waning seconds of regulation to force the Wolf Pack's game against the Washington Huskies into overtime.

The Nevada Wolf Pack (5-3) took control of the game in the overtime period with Burton scoring eight of the team's ten points, igniting his team to a 76-73 victory in overtime over Washington (4-2) on Friday night.

Washington's Darnell Gant had a chance to put the game away with ten seconds left in the second half at the free-throw line with the Huskies up 65-63. The senior forward made the first free-throw shot, but missed the second, giving Nevada a shot to tie the game. Burton took full advantage of the opportunity and buried a three-pointer as time expired. Huskies' point guard Tony Wroten Jr. attempted to intentionally foul Burton prior to his shot per the instructions of the Washington coaches, but no foul call by the referees was made.

Terrence Ross led Washington with 18 points. He also added five assists and five rebounds to go along with the productive offensive output. Wilcox poured in 14 points, with all of them coming after the first half. The Huskies' leading scorer was shut out in the first half by a stingy Nevada defense.

Washington suffered from poor play from their point guards. Wroten and Abdul Gaddy combined for nine of the team's 18 turnovers. The Huskies only gave the ball up six times after the first half, but the Wolf Pack made them pay for their sloppy play.

Guard Malik Story and forward Olek Czyz added 13 and 10 points respectively for the Wolf Pack.

The Huskies appeared to finally be controlling the game after going on a 6-0 run to go up by nine points, 47-38, with 13:17 to go in the game. However, Nevada was able to Washington's lead to one point with under a minute left.

Lorenzo Romar's squad has yet to win a road game this season and face the tough task of playing Marquette and Duke at Madison Square Garden next week.
