Russell Okung Injury: Seahawks LT Has "Extensive Damage" to Pectoral

Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung suffered an injury to his pectoral muscle on what looked to be a late, seemingly cheap, play by Eagles defensive end Trent Cole on the 2nd to last play of the game. You be the judge:

Nmgvsy_jpg_medium

via BigTrain21

Regardless, Pete Carroll noted today in his afternoon presser that Okung has "extensive damage" to his pectoral, but the Seahawks won't know the exact nature of the injury or how much time he might miss until MRI results come back this afternoon. Carroll mentioned that he expects the league will look into the incident and intimated that a fine or suspension should be forthcoming for Cole.

On the day that Ndamukong Suh's two-game suspension was upheld by the league for his stomping incident on Thanksgiving Day, it seems like this little maneuver by Cole deserves some sort of recourse from the league, especially considering Okung may in fact miss the rest of the season.

Obviously, that would be tough for Okung and the Seahawks, but it's clear he'll do as much as he can to stay in there. On the Pete Carroll show this morning, Carroll mentioned that the big LT text messaged him late last night that "If you I.R. me, I'll mess you up."

Week 13 NFL Schedule: Seahawks Hanging Around In Wildcard Race

The Seattle Seahawks keet their slim playoff hopes alive with their impressive 31-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night, leaving them 2.5 games behind in the wildcard race. Let's take a close look at some of the factor's influencing Seattle's playoff chances.

The Bears, Lions, Falcons and Cowboys all sit at 7-4, tied for the lead in the NFC wildcard race. The New York Giants are at 6-5, while the Seahawks sit a 5-7 are will need some help from almost all these teams to move up in the standings.

Here are some key games this week that will directly affect their playoff chances:

Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees' record setting season has the Saints undefeated at home this year, proving to be a tough test for the Lions sans Ndamukong  Suh. A Lions loss would be awesome for the Seahawks.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Chicago Bears: Without Jay Cutler, the Bears offense has been much more stagnent, though the Chiefs are without their signal caller as well in Matt Cassell.  Once again, fingers crossed for a Bears loss.

Atlanta Flacons @ Houston Texans: It's Jake Delhomme's first start since pulling a Jake Delhomme and getting released by the Browns in July, though the Falcons may be without Michael Turner. Houston wins, Seattle wins as well. Simple as that.

St. Louis Rams @ San Francisco 49ers: The longest of shots is that the 49ers collapse and the Seahawks get back into the NFC West race. Though highly unlikely, I'd never sleep on something crazy happening in this division so watch out. Nevertheless, if the 49ers take care of business at home, they effectively clinch the division.

Seahawks vs. Eagles Final Score: Seattle Dominates Defensively In 31-14 Victory

The Seattle Seahawks came up with a big victory on Thursday night as they knocked off the struggling Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 31-14.

Marshawn Lynch was the hero on Thursday night and led the way with 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns. After weeks of inconsistent play, Tarvaris Jackson stepped up as well, completing 13 of his 16 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown. Golden Tate hauled in four passes and was the recipient of the touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.

The Eagles were clearly discombobulated without Michael Vick and Vince Young had an atrocious game. The backup QB threw four interceptions and only had 208 passing yards despite throwing the ball 29 times. LeSean McCoy did his part offensively -- two touchdowns and 133 yards of total offense -- but he was a one-man show against a tough Seattle defense.

The play that ended the game was a 77-yard interception return from David Hawthorne that went for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Simply put, Seattle dominated every aspect of the game.

Seahawks vs. Eagles Score: Seahawks Dominate Third Quarter, Lead 24-14

The Seahawks have struggled to play consistently throughout the year, but they are currently playing what may be their best game of the season. With the fourth quarter underway, they lead the Eagles by a score of 24-14.

The Seahawks used a big interception return to get deep into scoring position and capped off a six play, 30 yard touchdown drive with a pretty touchdown pass to Golden Tate in the corner of the end zone. After a slow start, Tarvaris Jackson is having a big game with 154 passing yards and a touchdown. He has completed 10 of 13 passes, has no turnovers and features a QB rating of 141.2.

Vince Young continues to struggle and threw his second interception of the game with the Eagles deep in Seattle territory, but LeSean McCoy has kept Philly in the game with a huge performance. The star running back has scored twice is approaching 100 yards of total offense.

13 minutes remain in the game and the Seahawks have the ball. Killing the clock on this drive is imperative if they hope to win.

Seahawks vs. Eagles Score: Marshawn Lynch, LeSean McCoy Playing Well As Seattle Leads

The Seattle Seahawks used two big touchdown runs from Marshawn Lynch and a 49-yard field goal in the final minutes of the first half to give themselves a 17-7 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lynch is well on his way to a stellar performance, racking up 90 rushing yards on just 11 carries. The Eagles have had no answer for the shifty running back, although he was battling stomach pains towards the end of the half. Tarvaris Jackson has played surprisingly well, completing nine of his twelve passes for 143 yards. Most notably, Seattle did not have a turnover in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Eagles are struggling without Michael Vick and it was been a struggle with Vince Young at the helm. Young completed just five passes in the half for 86 yards and threw an interception while the team was driving. LeSean McCoy has been the only consistent player offensively for Philadelphia, rushing for 36 yards and a touchdown. DeSean Jackson continues to be a non-factor and is completely out of sync with the backup quarterback.

The second half is about to be underway and the Seahawks will kickoff. For more on the game, head on over to Field Gulls.

Seahawks vs. Eagles Score: Marshawn Lynch Dominating Early On Thursday Night Football

Both the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles are desperate for a win on Thursday Night Football, and just a few minutes into the second quarter, Marshawn Lynch has been unstoppable. After two impressive touchdown rushes from Lynch, the Seahawks lead 14-7. Here is a video of Lynch's second touchdown run.

Other than Lynch, Tarvaris Jackson has played surprisingly well, completing three of his first five passes for 66 yards. The Seattle defense also played very well in the first quarter, holding the Eagles, who are playing without Michael Vick, to just 49 yards of total offense.

Philadelphia was finally able to get something going early in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 14-7 with a deep pass Riley Cooper and one-yard touchdown run from LeSean McCoy. Without Vick at the helm, the Eagles will have to play mistake-free football if they hope to pick up a road victory.

Michael Vick, Jeremy Maclin Inactive For Eagles Vs. Seahawks

The Philadelphia Eagles might have LeSean McCoy in action when they play the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night football. That's pretty much the only good news Philly can hear when it comes to this game.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been declared inactive for tonight's contest, as has wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Both of them are pretty critical cogs, and could slow down Philadelphia's passing attack. We all know how much Andy Reid wants to go pass-heavy in any game he coaches, so this could be a problem.

Vince Young is perfectly serviceable (and has proven that he's able to keep Philadelphia's offense moving the right way). But with no number one option in Maclin to connect to, it should allow the Seahawks defense to try and key in on DeSean Jackson and force Young to look at Jason Avant and Riley Cooper more on the outside. Also the Seahawks will probably be watching Young closely in monitoring his scrambling ability.

LeSean McCoy Status Update: Eagles RB Active For Thursday Night Football

The Seattle Seahawks take on the Philadelphia Eagles tonight, and it looks as if Seattle's defense won't have to deal with a lot of Philly's biggest weapons. However, there'll be one big weapon that the Seahawks will have to account for tonight.

LeSean McCoy is not on the inactive list for the Eagles tonight, and that probably means he'll be suiting up tonight. McCoy was looking like a game-time decision, but the fact that he wasn't among Philadelphia's inactives means he'll be playing. McCoy will be tough for Seattle's defense to handle, even if there's not a consistent pass attack. Seattle will have to be on their toes to defend him.

Will Andy Reid trust McCoy to run the ball enough and carry the load, or will he continously rely on a pass-heavy strategy with Vince Young holding the ball under center?

LeSean McCoy Status Update: Eagles RB A Game-Time Decision

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, officially listed as questionable for tonight's matchup in Seattle against the Seahawks, will play, reports Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network.

Barring a setback in pre-game warmups, LeSean McCoy will start for Eagles tonite on Thursday Night Football on NFL Network
Dec 01 via Twitter for BlackBerry®FavoriteRetweetReply

This announcement is great news for the Eagles, who run a great deal of their offense through McCoy. Thus far on the season, McCoy has already rushed for 1,050 yards and 11 touchdowns (both tops in the NFL) and has caught 38 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns.

The Seahawks will look to keep limit McCoy, who averages 5.3 yards per carry - and thus far have held opponents to 3.5 yards per carry on the season, tied for 2nd in the NFL.

Jeremy Maclin Injury: Philadelphia Eagles WR Out Vs. Seattle Seahawks

Not only has Eagles QB Michael Vick not available tonight against the Seahawks, but perhaps their most reliable receiving option has also been ruled out, as Jeremy Maclin will also be sitting things out. With both Vick and Maclin out, it's looking like Young and Riley Cooper will be good options for fantasy owners, as they'll be the main replacements. Jason Avant is also likely a decent option.

In addition, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Moise Fokou, and King Dunlap have all been ruled out for Thursday, leaving Philly a fairly depleted team. The Seahawks will have a great chance to capture a much needed victory on Thursday night in front of a national audience.

Below is a list of all the injuries for both teams.

Eagles injuries

  • OUT: T King Dunlap (concussion), LB Moise Fokou (ankle), WR Jeremy Maclin (hamstring, shoulder), CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle), QB Michael Vick (ribs)
  • QUESTIONABLE: CB Nnamdi Asomugha (knee), RB LeSean McCoy (toe)
  • PROBABLE: DT Cullen Jenkins (thumb)

Seahawks injuries

  • OUT: CB Byron Maxwell (illness)
  • QUESTIONABLE: LB David Hawthorne (knee), CB Richard Sherman (calf)
  • PROBABLE: DT Alan Branch (ankle), QB Tarvaris Jackson (pectoral)

Michael Vick Injury: Eagles QB Out Vs. Seahawks

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks are missing a lot of players this Thursday night. But the Eagles are the ones who are probably the most banged up, primary among them the loss of their starting signal-caller.

Michael Vick has had a disappointing season, and the injury he sustained to his ribs will keep him out this Thursday night. It's not like the Eagles QB would have guaranteed victory on Thursday night (his performances have been up and down this season), but Vick being out does gravely limit Philly's passing effectiveness with the football.

Vince Young will take his place. Young had one decent performance against the New York Giants on Sunday Night and proved he could move the football against the New England Patriots. But this will definitely be one of the most hostile road environments in the country he'll be going up into at CenturyLink Field. The Seahawks defense will do their best to limit Young.

Sidney Rice Injury: Seahawks WR To Be Placed on Injured Reserve, According to Pete Carroll

The Seattle Seahawks could ill afford losing any of their big time playmakers for any time during the season, but unfortunately will be without wide receiver Sidney Rice for the rest of the season as he is to be placed on injured reserve according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter on Twitter

Pete Carroll said Seahawks will place WR Sidney Rice on injured reserve today.
Nov 30 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

Rice was knocked out of last week's meeting with Redskins with a concussion, though coach Carroll made it clear that Rice's third concussion in the past year would put an end to his season.

Rice's injury problems continue to mount up after suiting up in only 15 of a possible 32 games over the last two seasons. Rice is only 25, but after his essentially lost season in 2011, is going to have to prove his worth in 2012. Ben Obomanu should see an increase in snaps in Rice's absence, though Doug Baldwin will likely see an increase in production as well.

Sidney Rice Injury: With Seahawks WR Likely Out Thursday, Ben Obomanu To Get The Start

With Sidney Rice all but officially ruled out for Thursday's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles because of a concussion, Seattle's depth at wide receiver will be tested. First up on the depth chart is sixth-year player Ben Obomanu

Obomanu will step in and see significant snaps if Rice is unable to go, as is expected. As Clare Farnsworth reported, the Seahawks love Obo's do-everything attitude and are looking forward to seeing how he can contribute this week with Rice ailing.

"He's just what you're looking for," Carroll said of Obomanu. "He gets it. He's working really hard. He understands everything. He's adaptable to the positions and the different aspects of the positions - whether you're asking him to block, or go down field, or make the tough catches inside.

"He can do everything. He's just grown into a real favorite of ours because he's so flexible and he has the versatility. We'll count on him."

Obomanu has 28 receptions this season for 285 yards and two touchdowns. He's also a strong contributor on special teams and at 28, is one of the elder statesmen on the team; he also possesses the second longest tenure on the Seahawks, behind only Leroy Hill

He won't be alone though, as Golden Tate is expected to continue to see significant snaps and Deon Butler may even be activated this week after missing the first twelve.

Seahawks Vs Eagles Injury Update: Philadelphia's Michael Vick, Jeremy Maclin Sit Out Practice; LeSean McCoy, Nnamdi Asomugha Limited

The Seahawks are a little banged up but will be facing a Philadelphia Eagles team this Thursday that has had some serious injury issues of their own. It's looking more and more like quarterback Michael Vick will miss this week's game with a nagging rib injury, and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is likely out as well. With Vick and Maclin likely out, and Desean Jackson still playing inconsistently and lately in the doghouse, the Eagles vaunted offense could potentially take a serious hit. It's now looking like Vince Young could get the start at QB for Philadelphia.

In question too are the statuses of key defensive players Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, both suffering from leg injuries. Potentially exacerbating the Eagles losses on offense in the availability of star running back LeSean McCoy, who is battling a toe injury that could limit or even keep him out of Thursday's game as well.

Here is the official practice report for the Eagles from Tuesday:

DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICE - T King Dunlap (concussion), LB Moise Fokou (ankle), WR Jeremy Maclin (hamstring, shoulder), QB Michael Vick (ribs)

LIMITED PARTICIPATION IN PRACTICE - CB Nnamdi Asomugha (knee), RB LeSean McCoy (toe), CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle)

FULL PARTICIPATION IN PRACTICE - DT Cullen Jenkins (thumb)

Seahawks Injury Report: Sidney Rice Does Not Practice, Tarvaris Jackson Full Participant

The Seahawks had a little good news in their Tuesday injury report, and a little bad. The bad news was that Sidney Rice sat out of practice today, and predictably, Pete Carroll announced that due to NFL concussion testing protocol, Rice has already essentially been ruled out for this week's game due to the short week. On the other hand, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson practiced fully, the first time he's done so in the early part of the practice week since suffering an injury to his pectoral over a month ago.

If Jackson can go for the Seahawks it will be very welcome news for the offense; if he were to regress the Hawks would have to rely on a very inconsistent Charlie Whitehurst or go to their 3rd string QB, rookie undrafted free agent Josh Portis. Neither situation is ideal for a team that is hoping to keep pace on the scoreboard with the potentially explosive Philadelphia offense.

Cornerback Byron Maxwell also sat out of practice Tuesday for the Seahawks, recovering from what Pete Carroll announced was pneumonia. David Hawthorne (knee) and Richard Sherman (calf) were limited participants in practice.

DT Alan Branch, who sat out Sunday's game as a late scratch, practiced fully, as did Mike Williams, who left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. Good news on both accounts as the Seahawks look to get as healthy as possible in the next day or two running up to their Thursday night NFL Network primetime game against the Eagles

Sidney Rice Injury Update: Seahawks WR Likely Out Vs. Philadelphia

Due to a concussion, Sidney Rice will likely miss Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles for the Seattle Seahawks. Rice did not practice on Tuesday and it was also revealed the concussion occurred on Sunday against the Washington Redskins:

Mug_normal #Seahawks WR Sidney Rice pretty much ruled out because of a concussion. - @dannyoneil via Twitter

Rice was not the only major injury concern for the Seahawks, as quarterback Tavaris Jackson was also a possible scratch for Thursday:

Nfc_west_twitter_avatar_normal Played as though hurting Sunday. RT: @Softykjr: Carroll says there is concern Tarvaris Jackson won't be ready by Thursday for #Eagles game - @espn_nfcwest

Jackson was ineffective against the Redskins, completing only 14 of his 30 pass attempts for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns against an interception. Jackson was also sacked twice. If Jackson cannot play it is likely that Charlie Whitehurst would take over. Whitehurst has completed 27 of 56 passes this season for 298 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
